Pack 4 Registration / Re-Charter

Parents,

The Pack has started its annual charter renewal process.  This is the time of the year when we update the Pack’s registration with the Boy Scouts of America and collect the annual Pack registration fee. 

The two-step process is straightforward: 

First, please send me an e-mail and let me know if your son will register for the coming scout year (March 2012 to February 2013).  I will use this information to update the Charter package I submit to Knox Trail Council in February on behalf of the Pack.

Second, please submit your payment of $50.00 per scout to the Pack on or before January 29, 2012. This amount is unchanged from last year and covers the period beginning March 1, 2012 and ending February 28, 2013.  Payments may be submitted to your Den Leader at your regularly scheduled den meeting; they may be provided to me at the Pinewood Derby Workshop (January 28th) or at the Pinewood Derby (January 29th); or they may be mailed directly to the Pack Treasurer, Amy Dulak, (check the e-mail I sent for her address).

The registration fee covers BSA youth membership in the amount of $15.00; a Boy's Life Magazine subscription in the amount of $12.00; and an insurance premium required by Knox Trail Council in the amount of $1.00 (a total of $28.00 per scout per year).  The remaining $22.00 per scout is deposited into the Pack 4 treasury to cover expenses that are incurred during the course of the year for the benefit of the Pack, to include, awards, materials used during pack meetings and similar items.  This amount also is used to defray the cost of special activities, such as bowling, the Blue and Gold Dinner and camping.

Earlier this year, new scouts, paid an initial registration fee of $20.00 when they first registered with the Pack.  This amount approximates the pro-rated registration for the five month period between September and the following February.   In February, the Pack collects the regular yearly registration fee from all scouts, including those who entered in September.  From that point, registration fees are collected yearly in time for the February re-charter.

Webelos who cross over and join a Boy Scout Troop in February will have the remaining balance of their registration credited towards the amount that would otherwise be payable to the Boy Scout Troop.  Knox Trail Council coordinates this process between unit accounts.
